MATERIAL

What material is used to make these pods?

The pods are woven from from buff willow and the frame is made from steel.

What is buff willow?

Buff willow can also be known as stripped willow and most commonly comes from the Black Maul variety of willow. The willow is boiled for approx 8 hours before being stripped of its bark and dried.

This willow is light in colour due to the bark being removed. We choose this type of willow as it gives the pods a bright, contemporary feel and smooth finish.

Where does the willow come from?

All our willow is supplied by Musgrove Willows

Is willow sustainable?

The good news is that willow is indeed sustainable. The fast-growing material has a low environmental impact over its whole lifecycle

Can the pods be recycled?

Yes! As willow is a natural material, it will eventually biodegrade. It’s worth noting that the frames of our pod are made from steel so these will have to be recycled separately.

CARE

How shall I clean my pod?

A feather duster or a clean, dry natural bristle paintbrush is the best way to remove dust from your pod. Or use the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner with a nylon stocking placed over the end.

For deep cleaning, dampen a white 100% cotton cloth, very slightly with clean cold water and blot gently; then let it air dry completely.

How can I extend the use of my pod?

Choose a room with constant humidity and temperature levels. De-humidifiers and regular ventilation for humid/damp rooms can help. Mold and mildew are very difficult to remove properly and can damage your pod.

Can they go outdoors?

Yes! Our Brown Willow Pods are suitable for outdoor use.

Because of the way the white willow is processed, these ones can only be used indoors. If you want to use your white willow pods outside, only take them out in good weather.

How do I hang it in my house?

Locate a joist or internal beam in your ceiling and attach your fixings to this spot. This will ensure it is strong enough to hold the weight of you and your pod.

What if I have nowhere to hang it?

We recommend attaching the pod to your ceiling if you can, but if not there are two alterntive options:
1) Placing the pod on the floor. We can provide a version with padded feet on the base of the pod so that it sits just off the floor.
2) A free-standind frame to hang the pod from. This way your pod will still be hanging but you won't have to drill in to your ceiling.
